Our Mission
Why heilys® exists
The name heilys combines "heil" – in the sense of healing – with "lys," the Nordic word for light. For us, heilys means: healing light.
The name also describes our mission:
"We want to help people use light more consciously, live healthier lives, and reconnect more strongly with nature."
To this end, we research light, experiment with it, develop concrete lighting solutions from it, and explain how light can be used in a health-oriented way – in harmony with our body's needs, rather than against them.
This is how knowledge becomes a heilys® product
1. Question and explore
We begin with a concrete application and the question of which light parameters are suitable for it.
2. Develop and Measure
Spectrum, intensity, optics, light distribution, heat development and operation are developed and tested as a connected system.
3. Test and support
Functionality and defined quality parameters are checked before shipment. Instructions for use and personal support are part of our product offering.
Research Expertise Behind heilys®
Our Scientific Advisory Board brings together expertise from biophotonics, preventive medicine, and life sciences.
Dr. Eduard Van Wijk
Expert in Biophotonics and Preventive Medicine
Dr. Van Wijk has a background in Cognitive and Biological Psychology. He worked as a Senior Researcher at the International Institute of Biophysics and subsequently conducted research at Leiden University in the field of Analytical Biosciences.
Today, he is responsible for the field of Biophotonics at MELUNA Research in relation to health, lifestyle, and disease.
Dr. Yu Yan
Specialist for Spectroscopy and Biophotonic Measurement Technologies
Dr. Yan studied Biology at Hangzhou University in China and earned his doctorate at Mainz University in Germany. After completing his doctorate, he dedicated himself to Biophoton Research and Biophotonics.
Since 2009, he has been part of MELUNA Research, specializing in NIR, Raman, and UV/VIS Spectroscopy. As a lead researcher, he is significantly involved in the development of new measurement and analysis technologies.
